all of a sudden, I love an “other”…

Ok, I think I *must* get one of these Get It To Go shirts for my middle child because she has this strange fascination with those little buttons on the top of fast food drinks. And, you gotta admit, that’s one awesome Rat Fink-esque “other.”

quick, get the paddles…

I was just flipping through my kids’ web site, looking for an image, saw this one of my boy two years ago and I swear my heart skipped a beat. It’s not the best picture of him but something about seeing that baby plus a flash of the boy he’s become all mixed up in that same expression just about made me jump out of my chair. Other baby photos of him don’t seem to do this (yep, I just checked) so why this one?

Man, I hate when I start the day off all weird like that.

Boom de Ya Da…

If, like me, you have a house full of kids constantly singing Boom de Ya Da from the new Discovery Channel ad, go here and download the song. Then hit repeat and let it play, oh, 40,000 times. Voila! Happy kids.

Also, go here and buy your two-year-old a “May the Filth Be With You” shirt… because what toddler doesn’t need one?

it’s Tuesday, so VOTE…

but don’t worry about any of that primary nonsense, go vote for my entry in the “Now You See It, Now You Don’t” contest.

Somehow I made it through the first round (ok, there were only four entries and three got to go on… whatever!) so now we’ve moved on to the big Cookie magazine contest. That’s me, Ramona, with the row of hooks in the Entryway section — the one with the non-staged, non-stellar photography — so, yeah, I need all the help I can get.

Winner gets a gift certificate to Dwell Studios (*LURVE!*) and it looks like they’re also randomly awarding a gift certificate to one lucky voter. $900 smackeroos. So go vote already!

vroom, vroom, vroomy vroom vroom…

So, the boy loves cars. He has a hand-me-down garage-sale Little Tikes Cozy Coupe that he adores.

But he is a big boy and soon we’ll have to fold him in half to get him into his car, so I’ve been looking around for replacements. And have stumbled upon the wonderful world of metal pedal cars.

Oy, look at this orange one! Wouldn’t you love to race that around a driveway?! Or would you? Or, more importantly, would a two-year-old? Or, actually MORE importantly would a three- or four-year-old? Because these things are a bit spendy. The cheapest I’ve seen the orange car for is $135 on ebay. Some of the others run more towards $250-300. So does anyone have experience with pedal cars? Did your kids like them, and like them for awhile? Or did they move on to bikes and forget the car, leaving it as just one more thing to hog garage space?

stuffing the ballot box…

Hey, run on over to ohdeedoh’s Now You See It, Now You Don’t Contest and vote for our entry, #10 Hook Salvation. I think you have to be logged in to vote, but this is the children’s arm of the Apartment Therapy empire, so if you’re a member there, you can use that log-in.

I think voting is only open for 24 hours so vote early, vote often (heh) and thanks!

Spring, um, break…

Since I know you’re all dying for a few details from our recent Spring Break adventure, let’s review:

  • 1 bad haircut (me)
  • 4 separate kid puke episodes
  • 20+ hours in the van
  • 1 period, 5 days early, complete with…
  • 1 humongous raging boil, smack in the middle of my face
  • 1 duck through a plate glass window
  • 16 people for Easter brunch
  • 6 dozen eggs to help color
  • 1 smashing into the in-laws’ van (yes, by me)
  • 506 unread posts in my blog feed (seriously, Apartment Therapy, slow down!)
  • 5 different types of weather on Easter Sunday (rain, snow, sleet, hail, sun… no, I am not lying!)
  • 3 bazillion pounds of candy
  • many sleepless nights

This was not the most restful of holidays. I think next time we’ll all just stay home and sit and stare at one another.Spring “break” indeed…
