heh heh heh…

Let me just start by saying that I came by this, ummmmm, vase on ebay honestly… I have a search set up for Vistosi pottery and glassware (like Mr. Unaffordable Bird) and this is what showed up in my inbox yesterday.

I am floored.

I am also dying laughing.

C + M = I CAN-D…

I, for one, am glad that Corian Loves Missoni because the love child of that union is a color explosion, the likes of which you have never seen…

l – m – n – o – PataPri…

We’ve looked before at the awesome textiles of PataPri, but today I was actually (finally!) moved to buy something in her etsy store. So she got together with illustrator Linzie Hunter (whom we also *lurve*), and lo and behold, look what they made… this fabulous alphabet kitchen towel.

But this won’t be going in my kitchen to get smeared with red sauce and orange juice. Hooo, no, it’ll be either stretched or framed and hung on the wall. Wahoo for the cheap art!

The alphabet towels are linen and come in three colorways. They go on sale today and are a limited edition so get one quick!

and speaking of non-affordable art…

How amazing is this little glass Pulcini bird by Vistosi?

ummm, yep, just what I need… a 40-year-old $2,000 glass bird. Maybe I’ll just start printing out pictures of all this cool, breakable stuff and line a shelf with it. And call it an installation.(heh, I didn’t go to art school for nothin’!)

if you have to ask…

well, you know the rest. I do love this painting by Tom McKinley but I’m fairly certain that I won’t be buying it anytime soon. You know, not if we all want to eat and stuff.

8:30 pm by Tom McKinley, currently on exhibit at the John Bergruen Gallery.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Ok, I’ve read through this post over at Apartment Therapy five (yes, FIVE) times now and still haven’t got the faintest idea of what they’re talking about. I don’t think it was written by one of their bloggers; I think maybe it was pulled from either the web site or other promotional materials for the Takumi Key Calendar (but I’m not sure, because, well, I forgot to learn Japanese).

The Takumi Key Calendar plays upon both the metaphorical and also the innate physical desire to manipulate the mechanical as an effective way to keep track of the days of a month…

Instead of a simple flip calendar, the Takumi Key Calendar appeals to the same tactile desire employed when popping plastic bubbles or pressing buttons…who wouldn’t be tempted to place the key into the lock to see what happens?

Ok, honestly, what in the hell are they talking about? I’ve been through art school, I know the crap that can come spewing from your mouth in defense of a project (yeah, I’m talking to you, Dann!) but isn’t there some kind of limit? Because this is just incomprehensible.

I’ll take my calendars with actual numbers, please. And less BS.

packing tape babies…

Not usually a huge fan of installation art, but Mark Jenkins’ work intrigues me, especially the Storker Project. Does he just carry little packing tape babies around with him everywhere he goes?! On one hand, that freaks me out just a little, but on the other, it’s awesome.

Break out your Scotch-brand and get instructions for your own tape sculpture here.

“Sockm Onke Yart”…

We’ve spoken many times of my love for sock monkeys. And so imagine my glee when I came across these sock monkey art prints by Brenda Young. They are fantastic! And a total steal at only $12. She sells on ebay,  etsy and imagekind, but I imagine she gets the biggest cut if you buy off of her personal website, ClubhouseB.

a sculptural home…

I want to be artsy enough to say that I’d love to live in this Eliphante sculptural home. But I’m not. The photos are intriguing and I’m sure it would be a fantastic place to visit, but I just couldn’t live there. Because I have this affinity for, you know, straight lines and, ummmm, indoor plumbing. I mean, I like Tim Burton as much as the next person, but I don’t want to live in one of his movies 24/7.
