But Michelle over at emzeegee has tagged me for a meme and so I’ll pull myself outta my funk and oblige. Here we go…

Your Time Starts Now…

My earliest memory is… I don’t have many early memories. I have little flashes from when I was around four or five, but no whole memories until a few years after that. Important things like being annoyed that my Play-doh sculpture, when dried overnight had cracked and crumbled into something less than the masterpiece it had been the day before and feeding leftover macaroni and cheese to my dog .

At school I… slacked (surprised?) but made it through fairly easily. High school required little work. I did work a little at first degree in economics but I really wasn’t that interested, so it all just seemed like busywork. I did put in the effort for my art degree… some sort of combination of being older, paying for this one myself and whoa, hey! I actually enjoyed this stuff!

My first relationship was… when we say “relationship” are we talking some guy I said I was “going with” in eighth grade? Because I’m pretty sure that consisted purely of writing notes in school and getting my first kiss at the skating rink. My first relationship of any length was in high school and, well, you never forget your first love.

I don’t like talking about… myself. I guess I mean in person, because that just makes no sense for someone with a blog.

My mother and father always told me… my mother told me I could do anything I wanted in life as long as I was happy. My father told me I could do anything I wanted in life as long as it was NOT to be a truck driver like I so desperately wanted!

I wish I had… not worried about ridiculous stuff so much as a kid.

I wish I hadn’t… listened to my dad about degrees and careers. But, hey, it was the 80s and we were all supposed to go into finance!

My most humiliating moment was… there have been a ton — I can’t even think of one specific instance. Seems like I was always tripping or falling or saying something stupid.

My happiest moments were… laughing and hanging out with my friends, and now with my kids.

At home I cook… Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Yeah, I’m all kinds of gourmet.

My last meal would be… hmmmm, maybe a good breaded tenderloin sandwich, some mac & cheese, a few Cokes and a slice of lemon meringue pie. And a rootbeer popsicle.

I’m very bad at… letting things slide.

When I was a child I wanted to be… a veterinarian until I had the horrific realization that the job wouldn’t just be playing with animals all day, that I’d actually have to take care of sick ones and do surgeries and put them down and stuff. After that I wanted to drive a semi.

The book that changed my life is… I can’t think of any that really changed my life but I was a voracious reader from very early on. I think maybe I’ll say the Dune books, as those were the first that I read that were completely and utterly different than anything my parents had ever read or suggested I read.

It’s not fashionable, but I love… I love lots of things that are not in fashion, including the ratty old sweatshirt I am wearing and big clunky Keen shoes.

The song I’d like played at my funeral is… this one is tough! The first thing that pops to mind is Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, but I know there are others. I’m going to have to go make an iPod playlist for this now.

Friends say I am… loyal and open-minded. Usually quiet, but oh, so loud when I need to be.

My greatest fear is… that my kids will die before me.

If only I could… get it all straightened out and headed in the right direction.

The hardest thing I’ve ever done was… suffer through years of infertility. And later, tell my kids that their dad and I were getting divorced.

The last big belly laugh I had was… it seems like my kids provide these daily anymore.

What I don’t find amusing is… people being mean just to be mean.

I’m always being asked… how do you do it?

Cat or dog… cat, or rather catS — one old and neurotic, one fairly normal.

If I wasn’t me I’d like to be… Paul Rand. Or Jim Henson. Except not so dead.

At the moment I’m reading… thankfully just finished the last in a zillion Bobbsey Twins books that we own. It is almost painful to read those out loud. Also, a backlog of magazines.

My favourite work of art is… I’m all over the place here. There are Warhol prints that I love. There’s an Old 97’s concert poster by Dirk Fowler that I could kick myself for not buying before he ran out. I like a lot of the old masters. I love many of the things my kids draw, especially the incredibly detailed works that my middle kid spits out in like 10 minutes. I detest Thomas Kinkade.

My worst job was… waitressing and bussing tables at a hotel one summer in college. We had a huge old people crowd for breakfast in the morning. They’d come in dreadfully early, tips were pathetic and man, would they complain if their oatmeal wasn’t just right!

I often wonder… why I blog, but then I remember that a few of my friends seem to really get a kick out of it, so I’ll try to do better!

I’m sure I’m supposed to tag some people for this meme now but in my true, slackardly fashion, I’m going to skip it. ; )

I knew it was an 80s thing, so I did some sleuthing and, lo and behold, it was Max Headroom. Which was a little frightening on a couple of levels. One, I had just been thinking of Max Headroom last week (mostly thinking what kind of balls one would need to actually pitch that, and did said person get to keep their job in the end?) and two, WTF do I still have this kind of inane crap stuck in my head?!
