About
“You should write a blog,” they said. “Yeah,” I thought, “because that’s just what the world needs — another Midwestern SAHM, blathering on about her kids and the weird products that she runs across on the web as her children nap.” “No, really,” they said. And since “they” are friends and family, people that I know and love; people that usually look out for me, and tell me the truth; since “they” told me to, I’m going to try it.
I’m a graphic designer by trade. I can almost type that without laughing. Because really what I am is a slacker. Oh yeah, I have three kids, which makes it socially ok to stay home and slack. And I happen to do a bit of freelance design at night, which usually takes care of that awkward silence when people ask me what I do. It goes like this: “I stay home.” … silence part here… “oh, and I do a bit of freelance design too.” A-ha, work! They nod. That they can understand. Except they don’t. A few brave souls ask, “so what exactly does a designer do?” I used to, right after school, try to explain. But their eyes glaze over and it just seems pointless. So I’ve adopted my friend Jen’s response… “I make things pretty.” And that sums it up.
