drumroll please…

February 5th, 2008

Ok, I don’t know if the ads just aren’t that great anymore or I’m getting crotchety in my old age, but color me underwhelmed. I do  have to asterisk this with the fact that I did not watch the entire game, so I didn’t see the last quarter’s worth of ads (darn kids and their “bedtimes.” Whatever). But I have watched them since. I have to say that my favorite this year was the Unexpected Obstacles Bridgestone ad.  Ok, I know it didn’t win with the “experts,” but it was the only one to make me actually LOL (seriously, how can you NOT laugh when someone guns his car for Richard Simmons?!).

My other winners (and by “winners” I mean they elicited a half-snicker but were only slightly better than “meh”): Coke’s  Stewie & Underdog Balloons, T-Mobile’s Fave5, Tide-to-Go’s Interview, the Bud Light No Longer Available ads.

But no Bud Light “Jackie Moon” ad?!? I’ve seen two versions of that one floating around the ‘nets and both of them make me LOL!

So here’s my convoluted thinking on the Jackie Moon ads: they don’t count. I don’t count in any movie ads because if they’re funny, it’s usually just the movie itself that’s funny, not the ad. And I know that these aren’t movie scenes; they were written as ads, so they should be exempt from my ridiculous clause. Buuuuuuut… the character was invented for the movie and so I’m still not counting them. How dumb is that? But you know what? After all that nonsense, they made me LOL too!

Obviously you needed to have more to drink to appreciate the ads. (yeah, yeah…”bedtimes” and all that)
By appreciate, I mean laugh your head off, as I did.

On the other hand, I still laugh when I watch the talking stain ads – even the few moments during the day that I’m sober.

Maybe it just takes fewer IQ points.
