Despite the unfortunate habit of cheesily baring his aging chest, Evel Knievel was one of my childhood heroes. Him, Speed Racer, the Bandit and Underdog. It was a bit of a shock to read that he died today, not as a rocket-powered daredevil jumping over an Idaho canyon, but as an old man in an ambulance.
Sort of a sucky way to go, but man, what a life.
